Onam Begins!

Onam is the biggest festival when it comes to the southernmost Indian state, Kerala. The auspicious occasion of Onam falls in the Malayali month of Chingam, which is the equivalent of August-September period of the year. Onam is not a one day event but a series of super festive days that finally commence to the big day, the tenth day Thiruvonam! All ten of these days are enjoyed by the people with utmost passion and great devotion! Nevertheless, each day has its own set of rituals and the highspiroted people of Kerala are ever ready to indulge in merriment and the festivities!!

The following are the 10 days of Onam :

Day 1 : Atham

Day 2 : Chithira

Day 3 : Chodhi

Day 4 : Visakam

Day 5 : Anizham

Day 6 : Thriketa

Day 7 : Moolam

Day 8 : Pooradam

Day 9 : Uthradam

Day 10 : Thiruvonam

Out of these 10 days, the first day, Atham and the last day, Thiruvonam are the most important ones.
