Chithira is the second day in line after the Grand Initiation of Onam! The people start their day with early prayers inorder to ain the blessings of the holy deities.

The Pookalams on this day, get an upgrade in terms of colors, designs and the flowers used. Unleashing their creativity, the girls compete with other households so as to who will make the best pookalam. It is believed that the most enticing Pookalam will surely invite Lord Maveli in to their household and offer them his blessings! The flowers for the pookalam are arranged by the male member of the family from in and around their houses depending upon the requirements for the maiden of the houses. 

Planning for the big day starts from now on. It is discussed thoroughly so as to make everything go smoothly and with extreme precision. This is also the day when a long list for shopping is made. The children of the house have rather found it a great day to put in their requests for new toys and videogames!
